Write to your U.S. Representative and Senators:
What can one person do? – A great deal, actually. A rule of
thumb among legislators is that one sincere message from a concerned
constituent represents a hundred others who feel the same way. Letters
can be very persuasive tools in helping to form your elected official’s
views. Even if your representatives appear to be opposed to almost
everything you stand for, you still need to voice your opinion,
otherwise you leave the field wide open to the opposition by remaining
silent.
Voice Your Opinion in Letters to the Editor and Local Talk Shows:
Write letters to your local newspapers on tax and spending issues,
and call in to local radio programs. If your letter is published,
it will provide a unique chance to reach thousands of people who
may be encouraged to taking action. The same goes for airing your
opinion on talk radio.
Write “Op-Ed” Opinion Articles for Your Local Newspaper:
Consider writing concise articles and opinion pieces on issues for
your local newspapers. This allows you to present your views on
a somewhat longer format.
