You may be thinking that Deck Repair st louis is something that only a pro should tackle. In some cases that may be the case, but most of the time an old worn out deck can be repaired by the average person that isn’t afraid to make a few mistakes as they learn.

Old worn out decks are not only eye sores, but they are dangerous and can seriously hurt someone if you don’t do anything about it. As time goes by they will only get worse and if you wait too long you may very well have to hire a pro to fix it up especially if the foundation is rotted.

That is why I always say that preventative maintenance is the best cure for a broken down old deck and most of the time that is all that is required for deck repair to have it looking like new. If your deck is made of wood the first things you want to look at is the condition of the wood and see if it is rotten beyond repair.

Don’t be too discouraged if your wood looks cracked and grey or if some of the boards are warped and splintered. This can very easily be remedied with a little elbow grease and a little knowledge on what needs to be done. Start by going over each board and looking to see if any of the nails are starting to protrude out of the wood. Pull any of the ones that are and replace them with a screw that is slightly larger than the hole.

For warped boards have a friend help you straighten them by standing on them and then secure them down with a screw. To brighten up the grey wood I recommend using oxygen bleach. It is environmentally safe and non toxic. You simply brush it into the wood with a bristle broom and let it do its magic then rinse it with the garden hose or a pressure washer set on a lower pressure.

The last thing you do for deck repair before you start adding your lighting, outdoor dining furniture and potted plants is seal the deck with a stain and sealer. Some of the best sealer comes with a stain included or you can now get a clear coat sealer that will protect your wood from harmful UV rays. Years back the darker the stain the more protection you had, but this is no longer an issue when getting the right kind.
